Dan Zhang

National Symphony Orchestra Viola Performer, National Opera Viola Player, American Viola Soloist, Chamber Musician, Music Doctor, Founder of the International Music Masters Class

Dan Zhang graduated from Central Conservatory of Music of China, taught by the viola professor Wang Changhai. In 2007, in the first National Viola Competition, she won the best performance prize with superb skills and unique music performance charm. In 2009, Dan Zhang was awarded full-scholarship and went to the United States to receive further education. She was taught by the famous US viola educator Doris Lederer, and obtained the diploma of violist. During the school time, she had won the first prize in the concerto competition held by the school, and performed the viola concerto of Bartok with the orchestra. In 2011, Dan Zhang was admitted to Yale University with full scholarship, majoring in viola performance and awarded with full scholarship, and was taught by the famous Italian violist Ettore Causa living in the United States. Now, she receives further education at Benjamin T. Roman School of Music in Washington, for Doctoral Degree.
 
She has been admitted by several orchestras in the United States, including Maryland Symphony Orchestra, Fairfax Symphony Orchestra, Eastern Connecticut Symphony Orchestra, and New Haven Symphony Orchestra; and has performed many times at Washington’s Kennedy Center as the chief violist leading the Orchestra of Benjamin T. Roman School of Music. In 2015, she has won the first prize in the American Protege International Piano and Strings Competition, and was invited to hold a solo concert at the famous U.S. Carnegie hall. As a chamber music lover, she has attended Kneisel Hall Chamber Music Festival in Maine, Japanese MMCJ Music Festival, Germany Weimarer Bachkantaten-Akademie Music Festival  and other renowned international music festivals several times. In addition, she has cooperated with several world-renowned ensembles, including Julliard Quartet, Tokyo Quartet and Audubon Quartet, and her performance has covered the United States and China. 

She has founded a music studio in Virginia, and has engaged in music education for several years. Several of her students have been admitted by the U.S. State Orchestra and made outstanding achievements in competitions at all levels, and some of them even held chief positions of the schools’ orchestras.
